This presidential election is looking to be like one for the ages. We’ve got a political dynasty in Hillary vs the Republican outsider in Trump. The upcoming debates are sure to be entertaining if nothing else. These two candidates, despite winning their respective parties nomination are the two least popular candidates ever. One is currently under investigation and the other has brought his reality TV shenanigans to the presidential debates. Now, here in lies the rub, there are other candidates out there that speak for you. If you are one of the many that doesn’t like either of the two more well known candidates you are free to vote for anyone you like. It’s the beauty of the democratic system. But, and I’ve run into quite a wall here with people when this topic gets brought up, is a vote for another candidate just a vote for Hillary or Trump? For example, is a vote for a Green Party candidate just a vote for a Republican since the Green Party candidate will likely not be elected? Or is a vote for Libertarian candidate basically a vote for a Democrat since the Libertarian is likely to not win the election?
It is of my thought and opinion that you have to vote with your conscience, otherwise it cheapens the democracy that we have fought for and continue to fight for. By voting for the person you think is actually the best person for the job you are sending a message to all the major parties out there that this is the type of person America wants, and slowly but surely that type of candidate will make his or her way onto the main debate stage. If we keep doing what we’ve always done we will keep getting what we’ve always gotten…more war, more death, more debt, more government control, more lobbyists, more corruption, etc. So don’t waste your vote by voting for the “lesser of two evils” because the lesser is still evil. Use your right to vote for the person you think is best for the job. It’s Hillary’s job to beat Trump and it’s Trump’s job to beat Hillary. If you vote with your conscience and it’s not a vote for either of them then that’s on them for not speaking for you and for not being a better candidate, it’s not on you. Now, if you vote for the lesser of two evils and your evil candidate wins, that is on you.
Know what you want. Vote with your conscience. Vote for the best person to lead our country. Don’t waste your vote.
