Whether you’re “in a funk”, unfocused, or just not feeling it. Often the best cure is to just do it. Just get out there at do it. Whatever “it” is. You’re not always going to feel motivated. When those times arise is when you better hope that the habits you’ve instilled hold up and you’re still able to get out there and do it. As Zig Ziglar famously said, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend you do it daily.” Same goes for fitness and in life. You’ll go through spells where you lose the fire or the motivation. That’s when you have to keep moving. It will come back, maybe in another form, but it will come back. It should be the case that your “funks” are the rarity and the short-term flash in the pans vs. your moments of motivation and focus. The worst thing you can do, when not feeling motivated, is to stop. Whether it be due to injury or your “feelings”. Keep moving. Get your ass to the gym. Log those miles. Go for that hike. Just keep moving. You may decide instead of running marathons you want to focus on building muscle and that’s your new driving motivation. Whatever it is you will only discover it if you put your downer voice to the side and just do it. Push through and keep moving.
Note. I just realized that this is my second post with this quote on there. But it is so relevant, so I am keeping it. Sorry for the duplicity.
